WASHINGTON – Jacqueline A. Berrien, Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will open the 14th Annual Examining Conflicts in Employment Laws (EXCEL) Conference in Baltimore, Maryland on August 16, 2011.  The EXCEL Conference is the premier federal training conference for EEO managers, supervisors, practitioners, HR professionals, attorneys and ADR specialists.  EEOC Commissioner Chai Feldblum will also address the conference that Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, August 17, 2011, attendees will hear from Stanley Nelson, an award winning filmmaker.  Mr. Nelson's latest documentary film, "Freedom Riders" deals with the 1961 Freedom Rides across the South and the violent reactions they inspired.  This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides. Stanley Nelson is the founder and president of Half Nelson Productions, Inc, an independent production company and has produced a number of PBS documentaries.

EXCEL is three days of cutting edge training on hot topics in employment law. This year's theme, ReAlign, ReFocus and ReVitalize, draws attention to the need for agencies, employees and stakeholders to keep EEO concerns in focus.

"We are honored that Chair Berrien will be our kick-off speaker this year," said Mary McIver, director of the EEOC's Training Institute which sponsors EXCEL. "We also look forward to hearing from Stanley Nelson, whose stirring documentary about the Freedom Riders reminds us of the sacrifices made to enact the Civil Rights Law of 1964 which we enforce."

This year's conference will offer wide variety of topics, including sessions on job accommodations, bullying in the workplace, emotional intelligence, writing Final Agency Decisions, accent and national origin discrimination, and much, much more.
