Christine M. Griffin has been serving as a Commissioner in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission since January 3, 2006. As one of five members of the Commission, Commissioner Griffin participates with other Commissioners on all matters which come before it, including the development and approval of enforcement policies, authorization of litigation, issuance of Commissioner’s charges of discrimination, and the performance of such other functions as may be authorized by law, regulation, or order.
Commissioner Griffin is seeking law students who would be interested in participating in a voluntary internship in her office during the Fall and Spring semesters or during the Summer. The Commissioner is particularly interested in law students with severe disabilities.
Interns working for the Commissioner would be exposed to a broad range of legal activities that come before the Commissioner in the area of employment discrimination law. In particular, the intern would be responsible for reviewing litigation recommendations on private sector charges provided by our Office of General Counsel and appellate decisions on federal employee discrimination complaints drafted by the Office of Federal Operations, conducting any necessary legal research on such cases, and then briefing the Commissioner as she prepares to vote on such recommendations. Interns also engage in numerous research and other special projects, particularly in the areas of disability law and the Equal Pay Act. As circumstances permit, an intern may be able to observe a mediation proceeding or sit in on an administrative hearing. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend meetings of the Commissioners and their Special Assistants, and in particular will assist with any Commission meetings sponsored by Commissioner Griffin.
We accept applications from first and second year students for the Summer Program, which requires a full-time, eight to ten week commitment. Second and third year law students may apply for part-time internships during the school year.
Interested students should submit a cover letter, resume and writing sample to:
