The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

PRESS RELEASE

Two Plenary Sessions to Focus on Asian and Hispanic Federal Communities

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will hold its annual federal sector EXCEL (Examining Conflicts in Employment Law) conference from Aug. 18 to 21 at the Chicago Hilton Hotel. EXCEL is the premier national federal sector law conference and the most comprehensive of its kind examining contemporary equal employment opportunity issues and other workplace topics.

The multi-day interactive and educational program features eight plenary sessions, more than 50 workshops, and two specialty tracks: Hearings Preparation, and Advanced Mediation and Negotiation Skills.  Participants -- ranging from EEO managers, supervisors and specialists, attorneys, human resource professionals and union officials -- will receive information on recent developments in employment law and changes in agency procedures. A state and local networking session will also be held.

The EEOC is proud to present several “firsts” at this year’s conference, including a Weblog (blog) that will be updated from the conference floor, the first Hispanic Employment Managers Summit, as well as presentations from the recently formed Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Hispanic Work Groups.

EEOC Chair Naomi C. Earp will deliver opening remarks on Monday, Aug. 18, at 8:45 a.m. Other highlights that day include a presentation by Neil Anthony Gordon McPhie, Chairman of the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB); and Dr. Reginald F. Wells, Chief Human Capital Officer at the Social Security Administration (SSA).

On Tuesday, Aug. 19, EXCEL will feature two plenary sessions which will focus on removing the barriers facing the Asian and Hispanic federal communities. Additionally, EEOC commissioners will participate in a roundtable discussion on federal sector issues.

Further details about the conference, including the agenda, pricing information and online registration, are available online at www.eeotraining.eeoc.gov. The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination. Additional information about the agency can be found on its web site at www.eeoc.gov.
