EEOC LOOKING FOR COMMUNICATIONS INTERNS WITH SPANISH FLUENCY

Interested in civil rights? Want to get inside experience in a fast-paced federal government Communications shop? Do you read and speak Spanish fluently? The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which enforces the nation's laws against workplace discrimination, is looking for a student intern for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 in its Communications and Legislative Affairs (OCLA) division located at agency headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The ideal candidate is a well-organized self-starter with excellent computer, research, analytical, verbal and written communications skills and has the ability to both read and write in Spanish. They will help deliver a variety of short and long-term projects focusing on both Communications and Legislative issues relevant to the work of EEOC. The Intern will become a member of the OCLA team and will learn about:

  • The history and mission of EEOC
  • The laws EEOC enforces
  • How we are organized
  • The relationship between EEOC and the Congress

Working with the Communications team, this person will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Writing and editing news releases and then translating them into Spanish for posting on EEOC's Spanish website
  • Expanding the agency's social media presence via EEOC en Espanol
  • Helping grow the Hispanic media contacts list, assisting with outreach to Hispanic media and stakeholders, and assisting with the creation of publicity for Commission meetings and events
  • Assisting with media coordination for Commission meetings and other EEOC media interviews

Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities. EEOC's headquarters are half a block from the NoMa-Gallaudet stop on Metro's Red Line at 131 M Street NE. We offer flexible hours, transportation subsidies and great work environment. The internships are unpaid, but you will gain significant experience and build your resume.
