Number of Federal Employees with Targeted Disabilities Declining for Past Decade

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), moving to address the decade-long decline in the number of individuals with targeted disabilities employed by the federal government, will convene its next public meeting on Wednesday, June 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Eastern Time), 1801 L Street, N.W. (9th Floor Commission Meeting Room).

Invited panelists are scheduled to include senior leaders from federal agencies; disability rights organizations; private employer representatives; and persons with disabilities. In cooperation with these stakeholders, the EEOC will examine barriers facing individuals with targeted disabilities in obtaining federal employment, as well as focus on new and existing strategies to eliminate those barriers. Targeted disabilities are identified as blindness, deafness, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, mental illness, mental retardation, convulsive disorders, and distortion of limbs or spine.

NOTE: Any matter not discussed or concluded may be carried over to a later meeting. The Commission agenda is subject to revision. You may call (202) 663-7100 (voice) or (202) 664-4074 (TTY) on the day of the Commission Meeting to confirm the above schedule.

The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination. Further information about the agency is available on its web site at www.eeoc.gov.
