Judicial Internship Program Dallas District Office (Including San Antonio Field Office) Federal Sector Hearings/Office of Administrative Judges

The Dallas District Office of the EEOC is seeking applications from qualified and highly motivated first-year and second-year law students for its eight to ten-week Summer Judicial Internship Program from May through August 2024 (actual dates to remain flexible). A Judicial Internship with an EEOC Administrative Judge offers an opportunity for a law student to work closely with an Administrative Judge, learn about the inner workings of the administrative judicial system, and gain insight into the adjudication of claims of employment discrimination filed against federal agencies.

Successful applicants will have the choice of working with an Administrative Judge in person (if the Dallas District offices permit entry by non-employees by Summer 2024) or virtually.

Judicial Interns can expect to perform a variety of duties, including:

  • Review case files; analyze investigative documents; draft memoranda summarizing investigative findings; make recommendations regarding supplementation of investigations
  • Conduct legal research; prepare legal memoranda analyzing discrimination cases involving Title VII, The Rehabilitation Act, The Age Discrimination in Employment Act, The Equal Pay Act, and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act
  • Draft rulings on motions involving discovery disputes and evidentiary matters; draft orders; draft summary judgment decisions and decisions following hearings; prepare bench memoranda
  • Observe and participate in mediations and a variety of conferences, including: settlement conferences, discovery dispute conferences, clarification conferences, summary judgment oral argument conferences, and status conferences
  • Participate in hearings, including assisting the judge in determining the issues to be heard, the witnesses who will testify, and the exhibits that will be admitted
  • Assist the Supervisory Administrative Judge with special projects, including development of an internal database of current District decisions and relevant caselaw, assisting with the mediation program, and developing a training program to be directed at Agency and Complainant attorneys who practice in the federal sector area

The EEOC prefers Judicial Interns with strong research and writing skills who have demonstrated an interest in employment discrimination, administrative law, and/or public interest law. Although the internship program is not funded, interns may be eligible to receive credit, work study or a fellowship from their law schools, in addition to a letter of recommendation.

The deadline for applications for the 2024 Summer Program is March 1, 2024. Interested students should e-mail:

  • cover letter
  • resume
  • unofficial transcript
  • a brief (5-10 pages) writing sample
  • preference as to Dallas or San Antonio internship
