Consent Decree Ends EEOC Race Discrimination Lawsuit Against Battaglia Distributing

A federal district judge has entered a $735,000 consent decree resolving a race harassment lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The case, EEOC v. Battaglia Distributing Corp.,  Inc., No.13-cv-5789, had been pending in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, in Chicago.

Wells Fargo to Pay $295,000 to Resolve EEOC Finding of Retaliation Against Hispanic Employee

Wells Fargo & Company has agreed to pay $295,000 to resolve a discrimination charge filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  A finding by the EEOC determined that Wells Fargo disciplined and terminated a Minneapolis Wells Fargo employee in retaliation for complaining of differential treatment based on her race and national origin in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

EEOC Sues International Transport Provider to  Stop Race and National Origin Harassment

NFI Interactive Logistics LLC, a major transportation and distribution services provider, violated federal law by subjecting black employees at the company's Bolingbrook, Ill., facility to harassment based on race and national origin (Ghanaian), the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  NFI, which is headquartered in New Jersey, is a privately owned company that counts Trader Joe's, Costco, Wal-Mart and other retailing giants as clients.

Automotive parts retail chain AutoZone, Inc. violated federal law when it forced a black sales manager to transfer out of a store on the southwest side of Chicago because of his race and then fired him for resisting, the U.S. Equal Employment Oppor­tunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a suit filed today.

Federal Court Approves EEOC Subpoena in Investigation of Giant Milwaukee Indian Casino

On May 6, U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman approved the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's application to enforce a subpoena against Potawatomi Bingo Casino in Milwaukee, the federal agency announced today.  The ruling allows the EEOC to proceed with its investigation of an age discrimination charge filed against the casino by former employee Federico Colón.  The casino is located near downtown Milwaukee and has more than 3,000 employees.

EEOC Sues Battaglia Distributing Company for Racial Discrimination

Battaglia Distributing Co., Inc., a Chicago wholesale food distributor located at 2500 South Ashland Avenue, permitted a hostile work environment where use of racial slurs was common, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  According to the EEOC, slurs were used by both black and white supervisors to scold black employees.  In addition, frequent, offensive racial banter among hourly workers was routinely tolerated by management.

The MBM Corporation's food distribution facility in Mason City, Iowa, one of many operated by the company, violated the law when company officials failed to remove racist graffiti from the men's room even after receiving a complaint, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed in federal court on Sept. 25. Federal Court Denies Motion for Summary Judgment on EEOC Race Harassment and Discrimination Claims Against WRS Compass

U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has denied WRS Compass's motion of summary judgment on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) racial harassment and discrimination claims for seven former African-American employees, the agency announced today.  The court also denied summary judgment on the EEOC's retaliation claim for a former white employee who complained of discrimination.
