Magnolia Health Sued by EEOC for Widespread Disability Discrimination

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced it filed a lawsuit against Magnolia Health Corporation and its affiliates alleging the systemic discrimination of a class of job applicants and employees due to their perceived or actual disabilities. The Visalia, Calif.-based company and its affiliates operate six health care and assisted living facilities throughout California's Central Valley.

Court Prevents Peters' Bakery from Firing Employee Alleging Discrimination in EEOC Suit

Peters' Bakery, a family-owned business in East San Jose, may not terminate a sales clerk whose allegations of ethnic and racial harassment and retaliation are the basis for a federal lawsuit by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), according to a preliminary injunction recently issued by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division.  U.S. District Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman found that Peters' Bakery "gave no legitimate business reason for terminating Ms. Ramirez," and that "the EEOC is likely to succeed on its Title VII claims."

Patterson-UTI Drilling to Pay $14.5 Million to Settle Claims of Race / National Origin Discrimination

Patterson-UTI Drilling Company LLC, a Snyder, Texas-based multistate oil drilling company, will pay $14.5 million and furnish other relief to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and to resolve several cases through separate conciliation agreements, the agency announced today.  The EEOC charged the company with race and national origin discrimination, harassment and retaliation at its facilities throughout the country.

Lafontaine Cadillac, Buick, GMC, Inc., a Highland, Mich.-based automobile dealership, will pay $75,000 to settle a racial harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Lafontaine unlawfully subjected a black employee to a racially hostile work environment.

EEOC Releases Fiscal Year 2014  Enforcement and Litigation Data

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released a comprehensive set of fiscal year 2014 private sector data tables providing detailed breakdowns for the 88,778 charges of workplace discrimination the agency received. The fiscal year ran from Oct. 1, 2013, to Sept. 30, 2014.
