Two Sonic Franchises Sued By EEOC For Sexual Harassment To Pay $55,000

Two Sonic Drive-In franchises in the Kingwood-Humble area with common ownership and management will pay $55,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that S.D.I. of Kingwood, doing business as the Kingwood Sonic Drive-In, and S.D.I. of Lee Rd., doing business as the Lee Road Sonic Drive-In, violated federal law by routinely subjecting teenaged female employees to abuse by a manager and others, including threatening one young worker with a knife.

Selden Fire District To Pay $263,360 To Settle EEOC Age Discrimination Suit

The Selden Fire District Selden in Suffolk County, Long Island, will pay $263,360 to settle a class age discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The damages will be made in retroactive payments to a group of 23 firefighters who had been discriminated against based on their age and provide increased monthly pension amounts going forward to several firefighters.

Bayville Fire Company Settles EEOC Age Discrimination Suit

The Bayville Fire Company on Long Island has agreed to settle a class age discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The fire company, as well as the Villages of Bayville, Mill Neck, and Centre Island, will pay a group of about 15-18 firefighters lost pension money and provide increased monthly pension amounts going forward to several firefighters. Depend­ing on how many class members are finally definitively identified and the exact damages established for each one, the final total damages should be $180,000 to $240,000.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed suit today against RJB Properties, Inc. and Blackstone Consulting, Inc., charging that the companies discriminated against Hispanic employees because of their national origin, sexually harassed a male employee, and retaliated against employees who objected to the discrimination against Latino employees.

The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) has agreed to settle a class age discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that the UPR discriminated against public employees age 55 and older by not allowing them to obtain pension credit because of their age.

$428,500 Decree Ends Suit Against Eagle Wings for Sexual Harassment, Retaliation and Disability Bias

The federal district court in Urbana, Ill., today entered a consent decree under which Eagle Wings Industries, Inc. will pay $428,500 to a class of female employees who, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged, encountered sexual harassment at the company's Rantoul, Ill., facility.  This amount includes the attorney's fees for one of the class members.

Giumarra Vineyards Sued by EEOC  for Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Against Farm Workers

Giumarra Vineyards Corporation, one of the largest growers of table grapes in the nation, violated federal law by subjecting a teenage female farm worker to sexual harassment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit announced today.  Further, the EEOC said, the company retaliated against a class of other farm workers who came to her aid at its Edison, Calif., facility.  All of the victims identified in the lawsuit are indigenous Indians from Mexico, a minority among the Mexican farm worker community.
