EEOC Files Its Largest Farm Worker Human Trafficking Suit Against Global Horizons, Farms

In its largest human trafficking case in agriculture to date, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced that it filed lawsuits in Hawaii and Washington against Global Horizons Inc., a Beverly Hills-based farm labor contractor, and eight farms.  The EEOC contends that Global Horizons engaged in a pattern or practice of national origin and race discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, when it trafficked over 200 Thai male victims to farms in Hawaii and Washington where they were subjected to severe abuse.  Hundreds of additional potential claimants and witnesses are expected, according to the EEOC.

Lilly Ledbetter to Speak at EEOC Workshop on Gender Wage Disparity

Lilly Ledbetter, the woman whose unequal wage lawsuit gave rise to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act—the first law signed by President Obama on January 29, 2009--will speak at a a free public workshop on the gender wage disparity on May 4, 2011.  The event is sponsored by the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), partnering with six area colleges and universities.  It will be held at Fenn Tower Ballroom, Cleveland State University, 1983 East 24th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44115-2214.  The half-day workshop begins at 9:00 am and concludes at noon.  The free workshop is open to the public, although reservations are requested.  Seating is limited, reserve by calling Michelle Crew at (216) 522-4794, or email Michelle at michelle.crew@eeoc.gov.

International Profit Associates to Pay $8 Million for Sexual Harassment of Eighty-Two Women

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has announced that checks are now being distributed pursuant to an $8 million consent decree entered by federal district judge Joan Gottschall in what is believed to be one of the longest-running sexual harassment cases in EEOC history. Defendant International Profit Associates (IPA), the employer responsible for the sexual harassment of its female employees, is a telemarketer of small business consulting packages, located in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.

Hussey Copper To Pay $85,000 To Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

A major copper parts manufacturer will pay $85,000 and furnish significant remedial relief to settle a federal disability discrimination lawsuit, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today. The EEOC had charged that Hussey Copper, Ltd. unlawfully refused to hire a job applicant because of his record of a disability and because they regarded him as disabled.

Jury Returns Verdict in EEOC Bias Suit; Paul's Big M to Pay $1,260,080 for Sex Harassment

In a victory for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), a jury in federal district court here has returned a $1,260,080 verdict in a significant sexual harassment lawsuit brought by the agency. The verdict settled the EEOC's suit against Paul's Big M grocery store in Oswego, N.Y., that had charged that a class of female employees, many of whom were teenagers still in high school at the time, was subjected to a sexually hostile work environment by the store's general manager for more than 10 years.

Pharmacy giant Omnicare, Inc. will pay $195,000 to a class of five female sex discrimination victims under a consent decree entered by Magistrate Judge Stephen Crocker on December 21, 2010 in federal court in the Western District of Wisconsin. The damages had been sought in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC had charged that a class of women was subjected to sexual harassment at Omnicare's Pinnacle Pharmacy in La Crosse, Wis.

Maverik Country Stores Sued for Violation of Americans with Disabilities Act
