EEOC Wins Summary Judgment in American Tool & Mold Disability Case

In an order issued late Wednesday afternoon, a federal judge ruled in favor of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that a Clearwater, Fla.-based company, American Tool & Mold, Inc. (ATM), violated federal disability discrimination law by withdrawing a job offer because of the applicant's old back injury.  ATM designs and manufactures injection molds for plastics.

Appeals Court Rules for the EEOC in Age Bias Lawsuit Against Baltimore County

In a second victory for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in this case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit rejected Baltimore County's appeal of a district court decision finding that Baltimore County's pension plan discriminates based on age, the EEOC announced today.  The court's 17-page opinion, issued on March 31, affirmed the grant of partial summary judgment in favor of the EEOC finding that Baltimore County maintained a retirement plan in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) and remands the case for further proceedings on the issue of damages.

Boh Bros. Construction Co. to Pay $125,000 for Same-Sex Harassment in EEOC Lawsuit

Boh Bros. Construction Co. has agreed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to a consent judgment which requires the company to pay $125,000 in compensatory damages to a former employee in a sex discrimination/same sex harassment case.  The consent judgment cannot be appealed and effectively brings the litigation to a close.

PNS Investments, Inc. operating as Nick's Restaurant and Sports Bar, unlawfully discriminated against a server because of a disability, subjected her to sexual harassment and finally fired her in retaliation for complaining, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  Nick's is a sports bar and restaurant in the Houston area.

EEOC Releases FY 2013 Enforcement  And Litigation Data

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released a comprehensive set of fiscal year 2013 data tables showing that the agency obtained the highest monetary recovery in agency history through its administrative process, increasing by $6.7 million to $372.1 million.  The data tables also provide detailed breakdowns for the 93,727 charges of workplace discrimination the agency received.  The fiscal year runs Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.

EEOC'S Charlotte District Office and Mexican Consulate Sign Historic Outreach Agreement

The Charlotte District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the consulate of Mexico in Raleigh, N.C., today.  The agreement establishes an ongoing collaborative relationship between these two entities to provide Mexican nationals with information, guidance, and access to resources on the prevention of discrimination in the workplace.  Mexican Consul General Javier Díaz de León and Reuben Daniels Jr., Director of the EEOC's Charlotte District Office, signed the agreement.
