Wal-Mart Settles EEOC Lawsuit for $50,000

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores East, L.P. will pay $50,000 in back pay and damages in settlement of a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  The EEOC had charged that a Carlsbad, N.M., Walmart store unlawfully fired a part-time sales clerk because of her cerebral palsy.

Hawaii Electric Company to Pay $50,000 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO) will pay $50,000 and furnish other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that HECO denied an employee a meter reader position due to an eye condition.  HECO, an electric distribution company, is the primary energy provider for the Hawaiian islands.

JES/Genie Temps to Pay $80,000 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

JES Personnel Consultants, Inc., doing business as Genie Temporary Service, will pay $80,000 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that JES unlawfully refused to allow an employee to return to work because of his epilepsy.  Genie is a temporary service agency with an office in LaSalle, Ill., that supplies employees to various client employers.

Morningside House of Ellicott City to Pay $25,000 for Religious Discrimination

An Ellicott City, Md., assisted living center will pay $25,000 and furnish other relief to settle a religious discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Morningside House of Ellicott City denied hire to a Muslim job applicant because she refused to remove her hijab, a headscarf worn by Muslim women as a religious obligation.

Banner Health Settles EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit for $255,000

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it has settled a disability discrimination lawsuit against Banner Health, headquartered in Phoenix. The EEOC had charged the company with breaching a mediation agreement it entered into, and firing and failing to accommodate an employee because he had a disability. Banner Health operates in Colorado, Nebraska, Arizona, California, Nevada, Wyoming, and Alaska. It is one of the largest non-profit health care systems in the country.

United Road Towing to Pay $380,000 to Resolve EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

United Road Towing, Inc., a Mokena, Ill.-based towing company, will pay $380,000 to 13 claimants and provide other relief resolving a disability discrimination lawsuit, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced.  A federal district court judge in Chicago entered a consent decree ending the litigation on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.

Johns Hopkins Home Health Care to Pay $160,000 to Settle Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

Johns Hopkins Home Care Group, Inc. (JHHCG), a full-service home health care provider, will pay $160,000 and provide other relief to settle an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  In its lawsuit, the EEOC alleged that JHHCG violated the ADA when it discriminated against an employee because of her disability, failed to provide her with a reasonable accommodation for her disability, and retaliated against her for bringing her claims to the EEOC.
