Jackson Park Hospital Sued By EEOC For Race Discrimination And Retaliation

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a class race discrimination lawsuit in federal district court here today against Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center. The EEOC charged that the hospital, on Chicago's South Side, subjected a class of black female employees to different terms and conditions of employment and segregation in job assignments because of their race. The suit also alleged that at least one of the women was demoted in retaliation for opposing and complaining about unlawful employment practices.

Verizon to Pay $20 Million to Settle Nationwide EEOC Disability Suit

Telecommunications giant Verizon Communications will pay $20 million and provide significant equitable relief to resolve a nationwide class disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The suit, filed against 24 named subsidiaries of Verizon Communications, said the company unlawfully denied reasonable accommodations to hundreds of employees and disciplined and/or fired them pursuant to Verizon's "no fault" attendance plans.

Retaliation Remains Most Frequent Allegation Among Federal-Sector Discrimination Complaints

Federal employees and applicants filed 17,583 complaints of employment discrimination during fiscal year 2010, a 3.75 percent increase over the previous year, according to the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) Annual Report on the Federal Work Force Part I: EEO Complaints Processing for Fiscal Year 2010.  The report, issued today, assesses federal agencies' equal employment opportunity complaints program statistics.  The full text of the report is available on the agency's web site at http://www.eeoc.gov/federal/reports/fsp2010/index.cfm.

Terminix and ServiceMaster Settle EEOC Sexual Harassment Lawsuit for $140,000

Major exterminating company Terminix and its parent company, ServiceMaster, will pay $140,000 and furnish other relief to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that two female employees at a Terminix facility in Salt Lake City were repeatedly sexually harassed by a supervisor.

A large national shoe retailer, Genesco, Inc., doing business as Journeys, has agreed to settle a sex discrimination and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for $20,000, the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged the company with subjecting three teenaged female workers at an Albuquerque Journeys store to sexual harassment.

One of the world's largest security firms violated federal law when it failed to stop co-worker harassment of a guard concerning his national origin and age, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. According to the EEOC, Guardsmark not only ignored the employee's reports of harassment, but retaliated against him with an involuntary transfer.

Ricoh to Pay $125,000 to Settle EEOC Harassment and Retaliation Lawsuit

Ricoh Americas Corporation has agreed to pay $125,000 and provide substantial additional relief to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for race and national origin and retaliation, the agency announced today.   The EEOC had charged the company with subjecting an African employee to harassment because of his race and national origin and two Hispanic employees to harassment based on national origin at one of its work sites in Greensboro, N.C.  The lawsuit further charged that Ricoh suspended and then fired all three employees for complaining about the harassment.

A federal court jury in Peoria has returned a verdict of $600,000 against AutoZone, Inc. for failing to provide a reasonable accommodation to a disabled sales manager, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today. An additional claim for $115,000 in back pay will be decided by the presiding judge at a later date.

College View Donuts, LLC, doing business as Dunkin' Donuts, will pay $290,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  In its suit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York (Civil Action No. 1:09-01320 TJM/RFT), the EEOC charged that the manager of a Dunkin' Donuts store in Wynantskill, N.Y., sexually harassed female employees, some of whom were only 16 and 17 years old.

Childress Engineering Settles EEOC Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Suit in Mid-Trial

Richardson, Texas-based Childress Engineering Services, Inc. has settled a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on the fourth day of trial, before the case was submitted to the jury, the federal agency announced today.  The settlement pays the discrimination victim in this case $55,000 and provides extensive injunctive relief to prevent future unlawful conduct.

Chrysler To Pay $60,000 Under Decree Ending EEOC Retaliation Lawsuit

Chrysler Group, LLC will pay $60,000 under a consent decree resolving a retaliation lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) which was entered by the federal court in Milwaukee today. The EEOC sued Chrysler in December 2009 for unlawfully retaliating against two women after they opposed sex discrimination at Chrysler's national parts distribution center in Milwaukee. (EEOC v.
