Gonnella Baking Co. To Pay $350,000 To Settle EEOC Harassment And Retaliation Suit

Gonnella Baking Co., a Chicago-area baking company, will pay $350,000 to settle a national origin harassment and retaliation suit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Oppor­tunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The company will also be subject to a four-year consent decree, under which it will be required to report any further complaints of discrimination or retaliation to the EEOC and to provide training about employment discrimination law to its managers and other employees.

EEOC Sues Lowe's Home Centers For Religious Discrimination

Lowe's Home Centers committed religious discrimination by requiring an employee to work on his Sabbath, and by harassing and retaliating against the employee, causing him to lose hours, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed yesterday. The EEOC also pointed out that while Lowe's has an asserted policy for requesting religious accommodations, its workplace policy and practice was to refuse to accommodate sincerely held religious beliefs of its employees, in violation of federal law.

Kmart Corporation will pay $120,000 and furnish other relief to settle an age harassment, constructive discharge and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that Kmart discriminated against a 70-year-old pharmacist at a Honolulu store.

Federal Court Enters $50,000 Consent Decree Ending EEOC Suit Against Abbotsford Egg Processor

U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephen L. Crocker of the federal district court in Madison yesterday entered a consent decree resolving a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Mr. B's of Abbotsford, Inc., formerly known as Abbotsford Egg Products.  The EEOC had charged that the Abbotsford, Wis., former egg processing company unlawfully fired a production employee, Nicki Heberle, because of her epilepsy, despite Heberle's ability to perform the essential functions of her job.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced that Chief Judge Michael J. Davis of U.S. District Court in Minneapolis has approved a consent decree settling a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit filed by the EEOC against White Way Cleaners for $42,250 and other relief.  White Way is a dry cleaning company located in St. Paul, with store locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul as well as pick-up and delivery service to the Twin Cities suburbs.

Court Orders Frozen Food Giant Schwan's To Comply with EEOC Subpoena in Sex Bias Case

In a ruling issued late on March 8, 2010, Magistrate Judge Janie S. Mayeron of U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota ordered the Minnesota-based frozen food delivery company Schwan's Home Service to comply with a federal government subpoena by March 29, 2010.  The subpoena, issued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) pursuant to an investigation of a charge of sex discrimination filed by former Schwan's employee Kim Milliren, seeks personnel information about persons employed as general managers at Schwan's facilities nationwide from January 1, 2006 to the present.

EEOC Sues Medical Transportation Company For Sex Harassment and Retaliation

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a class lawsuit here today charging that Jay Medicar Transportation tolerated the sexual harassment of a number of female employees by one of its senior managers and retaliated against one employee after she complained about the harassment. The company provides medical transportation services in the Chicago area.

Big Lots to Pay $400,000 for Race Harassment

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced the settlement of its race harassment and discrimination lawsuit against Big Lots, Inc., the nation's largest broadline closeout retailer.  The settlement includes total monetary relief of $400,000 to be paid to least five employees along with a group of unidentified class members.  Big Lots also agreed to a two-year consent decree that calls for the implementation of a new policy, training, procedures and court monitoring to address harassment and discrimination in the workplace.

Columbia Sussex Settles EEOC Sex Discrimination and Retaliation Suit

Columbia Sussex Corporation, which owns and operates hotel properties across the United States, has agreed to settle a sex discrimination and retaliation suit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The settlement resolves the charge of a former banquet manager, Richard Knight, who claimed that Columbia Sussex fired him from its Sheraton Hotel in Baton Rouge, La., because of his sex, male, and because he complained that a female co-worker was not disciplined for the same purported infraction.

$428,500 Decree Ends Suit Against Eagle Wings for Sexual Harassment, Retaliation and Disability Bias

The federal district court in Urbana, Ill., today entered a consent decree under which Eagle Wings Industries, Inc. will pay $428,500 to a class of female employees who, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged, encountered sexual harassment at the company's Rantoul, Ill., facility.  This amount includes the attorney's fees for one of the class members.

U.S. Security Associates Pays Nearly $80,000 to Settle EEOC Pregnancy Discrimination Lawsuit

U.S. Security Associates, Inc. will pay $79,880 to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.   The EEOC had charged the Roswell, Ga.-based security company with unlawfully subjecting a security guard to pregnancy discrimination and then firing her in retaliation for complaining about it – in addition to firing her husband, a coworker, for supporting her in the matter.
