Major Washington Apple Grower Sued by EEOC for Retaliation Against Employees

One of the nation's largest apple producers violated federal law when its management retaliated against workers for cooperating in a federal discrimination investigation, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced in a lawsuit filed today.  This is the agency's second lawsuit against Evans Fruit Company; in June 2010, the EEOC charged that female farmworkers were sexually harassed at the grower's Sunnyside ranch.

Applebee's Owners Pay $1 Million in EEOC Suit

Food Management Investors, Inc. (FMI) and Apple Core Enterprises, Inc., Minot, N.D.-based companies, have agreed to resolve a lawsuit by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) relating to practices at their Bismarck, N.D. Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, the agency announced today.  Applebee's violated federal civil rights laws by permitting a former store general manager to create a pattern and practice of sexual harassment and retaliation against employees, the EEOC charged in a lawsuit filled in June 2010. (EEOC v. Apple Core Enterprises, Inc. & Food Management Investors, Inc. d/b/a Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, .No. 1:10-cv-00048 (DLH/CSM)).  The EEOC filed its suit after first attempting to reach a voluntary, out-of-court settlement through its conciliation process.

Huntington Ingalls and Contractor Sued by EEOC for Firing Men for Opposing Sexual Harassment

Newport News-based Huntington Ingalls, Inc., formerly Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Inc., and Chesapeake-based Quality Coatings of Virginia, Inc., violated federal law by firing two employees for opposing sexual harassment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  Huntington Ingalls, a contractor for the U.S. government, employs over 15,000 people.  Quality Coatings, a contractor for Huntington Ingalls, performed cleaning and painting on the U.S.S. George H. W. Bush while it was at the Norfolk Naval Operations Base in Norfolk, Va.

Plastics manufacturer Promens USA, Inc. will pay $225,000 to settle a sex discrimination and harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC sued Promens USA, formerly known as Bonar Plastics, Inc., in September 2010 on behalf of four women who were sexually harassed, retaliated against for rejecting their supervisor's sexual advances, and denied job opportunities open only to male employees.
