EEOC's San Francisco Office and Ecuadorian Consulate Sign Historic Outreach Agreement

The San Francisco District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Consulate of Ecuador in San Francisco today.  The agreement establishes a partnership between the agency and consulate to inform Ecuadorian nationals working in the United States about their employment rights and the federal laws that protect workers from discrimination, regardless of documentation status.

Mountaire Farms, Inc., doing business as Mountaire Farms of North Carolina Corp., unlawfully fired an employee in retaliation for his complaining about national origin discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged in a lawsuit filed today.  Mountaire Farms is a Delaware-based agricultural food processing company that operates a poultry processing facility in Lumber Bridge, N.C.

EEOC's New York District Office and Mexican Consulate Sign Historic Partnership Agreement

Today the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) New York District Office and the Mexican Consulate in New York signed a Memorandum of Under­stand­ing (MOU) at a joint press conference in New York City. The agreement, signed by EEOC District Director Kevin Berry and Consul General Sandra Fuentes-Berrain Villenave, officially establishes a five-year collaboration between these government entities to solidify their efforts to enforce, protect and educate all Mexicans about their employment rights of in the workplace, regardless of immigration status. The signing of the agreement was attended by members of English-language and Spanish-language press and media.

EEOC Sues Battaglia Distributing Company for Racial Discrimination

Battaglia Distributing Co., Inc., a Chicago wholesale food distributor located at 2500 South Ashland Avenue, permitted a hostile work environment where use of racial slurs was common, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  According to the EEOC, slurs were used by both black and white supervisors to scold black employees.  In addition, frequent, offensive racial banter among hourly workers was routinely tolerated by management.

Fred Fuller Oil Company, a Hudson, N.H.-based oil company, violated federal law when Fred Fuller, its owner, sexually harassed two women, caused the constructive discharge of one, and fired the other, her close friend, in retaliation for the first woman indicating she intended to file a claim of discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  This lawsuit is the second time EEOC has sued the company because of Fuller's sexual harassment and retaliation.
