Keenan Chosen as New Director of EEOC’s New York District

WASHINGTON – Judy Keenan has been chosen as the new district director of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) New York District, the federal agency announced today.

“Judy Keenan is committed to serving the New York District Office and their constituents” said EEOC Chair Janet Dhillon. “I am confident that Judy’s years of experience, both with the agency and in the private sector, will serve our mission well for years to come.”

Keenan said, “I am looking forward to continuing to work with the incredibly talented staff in the New York District, as well as the advocacy and business communities, in the EEOC’s pursuit of its mission to stop and remedy unlawful employment discrimination. I am honored that Chair Dhillon has entrusted me with this responsibility.”

Keenan attended Eastern Michigan University as an undergraduate and received her law degree from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. After law school, she was a partner in the law firm of Philo, Atkinson, White, Stephens, Whitaker and Keenan for nearly a decade. Immediately before joining the EEOC, Keenan served as trial attorney with Johnnie Cochran’s New York firm, The Cochran Firm: Schneider, Kleinick, Weitz, Damashek & Shoot.

Keenan joined the EEOC’s New York District in 2001, serving as a trial attorney, supervisory trial attorney, in details as regional attorney, director of the Newark Area Office, supervisory adminis­trative judge, supervisory ADR coordinator, and acting district director. Since 2012, she has been the deputy director of the New York District. She brings to the EEOC her private sector experience and almost 20 years of experience in every aspect of operation of the EEOC’s New York District.

The EEOC’s New York District Office combats job discrimination in New York state, all of New England, and northern New Jersey.
