Executive Secretariat – Internship Program

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) Office of the Executive Secretariat has internship opportunities available for undergraduate and graduate/professional students. As the federal agency charged with enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination against a job applicant or an employee based on race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age (40 or older), disability, or genetic information, the EEOC prevents and remedies unlawful employment discrimination and advances equal opportunity for all in the workplace..

The Executive Secretariat is the focal point for the receipt, documentation, review, coordination, and monitoring of all policy development-related activities and all decision documents flowing to and from the Offices of the Chair, the Commissioners, and other EEOC Divisions. They conduct research in response to requests from the Chair or Commissioners and are cognizant of major developments within the agency affecting Commission activities. They also plan and coordinate all Commission meetings and hearings.

The Executive Secretariat works closely with the Chair, COO, Deputy COO, the Chair’s designees, Commissioners, and other EEOC Offices to coordinate the completion of the Commission’s policy development objectives and to provide advice and assistance to Headquarters and Field Offices on the coordination and presentation of policy-related and decision documents going before the Commission for consideration. The Executive Secretariat is also responsible for the expedient and accurate circulation and tracking of sensitive correspondence addressed to the Chair and the timely flow of correspondence among the Chair, Commissioners, and other EEOC Offices.

Applicants should have an interest in civil rights, strong Microsoft Office experience, and excellent writing, communication, and organization skills.  EEOC internships are unpaid; however, interns may receive academic credit.

The EEOC is an equal opportunity employer.
