EEOC Sues Outokumpu for Race Discrimination

Outokumpu Stainless USA, LLC violated federal law when it denied black employees at its Calvert, Ala., facility a promotion to several vacant team leader positions because of their race, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today. Outokumpu purchased the Calvert stainless steel processing plant from German-based international steel company ThyssenKrupp in 2012.

EEOC Sues Gonnella Baking Company For Race Harassment

Gonnella Baking Co. violated federal civil rights laws by failing to stop a pattern of disparaging comments about black employees at the company's Aurora, Ill., baking facility, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission charged in a lawsuit it filed today. The defendant, a wholesale manufacturer of bread products, has three facilities in the Chicago area and one in Pennsylvania, according to its website.

A federal judge has awarded a pregnancy discrimination victim almost $75,000 in back pay and damages following a decision finding United Bible Fellowship Ministries, Inc. liable for pregnancy discrimination.  The award resulted from a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against the Houston-based non-profit organization which provides housing and residential care to clients with disabilities.

Newport News Industrial Corporation has agreed to pay $65,000 and provide substantial injunctive relief to settle an employment discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC said the company fired an employee because she complained she was being discriminated against based on her gender.

Appeals Court Affirms Jury Verdict of  Over $1.5 Million in EEOC Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Lawsuit Against New Breed Logistics

A federal appeals court has upheld a jury verdict of over $1.5 million in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC's) lawsuit against a High Point, N.C.-based logistics services provider for sexual harassment and retaliation, the federal agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged the company with subjecting three temporary female employees to sexual harassment and retaliation against them for complaining, as well as against a male employee who supported the women's claims.
