Court Enters Permanent Injunction Against American Tool & Mold in EEOC Disability Case

In an order issued yesterday, a federal judge entered a final judgment against American Tool & Mold, LLC (ATM), in a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today.  The judge awarded $150,000 in damages and provided for extensive injunctive relief to remedy the discrimination.

The Sneakers Corporation, doing business as Just Sneakers, Inc., will pay $18,000 and furnish other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged the athletic specialty store with violating federal law by discriminating against a legally blind sales clerk because of his disability.  Just Sneakers is a Georgia corporation operating athletic specialty retail stores in Georgia and Alabama.

Retailer Fred Meyer Settles Second EEOC Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

National grocery chain Fred Meyer will pay $487,500 to seven workers employed at its Oak Grove, Ore., store and provide other relief to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.   This is the company's second such settlement in just over five years; in late 2008, the company also settled an EEOC sexual harassment lawsuit on behalf of three Oregon City store employees for $485,000.

Kenan Transport, LLC, a Delaware trucking company that operates a terminal in Spartanburg, S.C., will pay $27,000 to settle a pregnancy discrimination and retaliation lawsuit brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged in its lawsuit that Kenan Transport violated federal law by discriminating against a female employee because she was pregnant and by retaliating against her because she made complaints about pregnancy discrimination.

Appeals Court Rules for the EEOC in Age Bias Lawsuit Against Baltimore County

In a second victory for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in this case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit rejected Baltimore County's appeal of a district court decision finding that Baltimore County's pension plan discriminates based on age, the EEOC announced today.  The court's 17-page opinion, issued on March 31, affirmed the grant of partial summary judgment in favor of the EEOC finding that Baltimore County maintained a retirement plan in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) and remands the case for further proceedings on the issue of damages.
