Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchise Pays $40,000 to Settle EEOC Religious Discrimination Lawsuit

Scottish Food Systems, Inc. and Laurinburg KFC Take Home, Inc. will pay $40,000 and furnish other relief to resolve a religious discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Com­mission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  Scottish Food Systems and Laurinburg KFC Take Home are based in Laurinburg, N.C.  and jointly operate a chain of Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in North Carolina.

In Landmark Ruling, Seventh Circuit Holds Employers Cannot Challenge EEOC Conciliation

In a decision endorsed by all its judges, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit decided today that employers cannot challenge – and courts cannot review – the adequacy of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC)  informal pre-litigation efforts to bring employers into compliance with federal anti-discrimination laws.

Regions Financial Corporation, doing business as Regions Bank, will pay $95,000 and provide injunctive relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Regions failed to provide a reasonable accommodation for a former employee's disability and discharged her because of her age.

Step Three, Ltd., a Hawaiian resort retailer, will pay $60,000 for discriminating against an employee because of her fertility treatments and eventual pregnancy, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today.   The EEOC simultaneously filed and resolved its pregnancy and disability discrimination suit against Step Three in a settlement that includes widespread changes to company policy and procedures.

Z Foods, Inc., doing business as Zoria Farms, and its predecessor company, Zoria Farms, Inc., subjected its female workers to ongoing sexual abuse, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  The Madera, Calif., dried fruit producer also unlawfully fired a class of workers in retaliation for reporting the abuse, the EEOC said.
