Grays Harbor Community Hospital, a private hospital in Aberdeen, Wash., violated federal law when it failed to stop a supervisor's continuous sexual harassment of several female employees, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.

Finch Air Conditioning Settles EEOC Lawsuit for Sexual Harassment of Young Female Employees

Finch Air Conditioning and Heating, Inc., located in La Porte, Texas, has agreed to pay $80,000 to settle claims of sexual harassment and constructive discharge of female employees brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division.  In the suit (Civil Action No. 4:09-cv-03156), the EEOC alleged that female employees at Finch were routinely subjected to sexual harassment and discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, one of the civil rights/employment discrimination statutes the EEOC is charged with enforcing.

Yates Construction To Pay $30,000 To Settle EEOC Racial Harassment And Retaliation Suit

Stokesdale, N.C.-based Yates Construction Company, Inc. will pay $30,000 to settle a racial harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employ­ment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that Yates subjected an African-American employee to racial harassment and discharged him in retaliation for complaining about it. The settlement also includes one other person who was allegedly subjected to racial harassment.

KobeWieland Copper Sued for Disability Discrimination

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced it has filed a disability discrimination lawsuit against KobeWieland Copper Products, LLC (KobeWieland) for failing to hire an individual because of his perceived disability at its facility in Pine Hall, North Carolina.  KobeWieland manufactures and sells copper tubing, and employs over 500 associates between its two plants in Pine Hall, NC and Wheeling, IL.

Hillsborough Restaurant Sued By EEOC For Sexual Harassment And Retaliation

A Hillsborough, N.C., restaurant violated federal law by subjecting a class of female employees to a sexually hostile work environment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. The EEOC's lawsuit further charged that at least one female employee quit her job because of the sexual harassment and that the company, which operates "Vinny's Italian Grill," fired two other female employees in retaliation for complaining about the sexual harassment.

Elmer W. Delaware-based chicken processor Mountaire Farms, Inc. will pay $40,000 to settle a retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged in its lawsuit that Mountaire Farms violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it gave an employee a negative performance evaluation and then fired her in retaliation for her complaints about racial discrimination.

Belk, Inc. Sued by EEOC  for Religious Discrimination

Department store chain Belk, Inc. unlawfully discriminated against an employee by failing to accommodate her religious beliefs and discharging her because of her religion, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina (EEOC v. Belk, Inc., Civil Action No. 5:10-CV-00300).  Belk, Inc. is the largest privately owned mainline department store company in the nation, with more than 300 fashion department stores in 16 contiguous Southern states.

EEOC Releases Federal Work Force Report

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released its Annual Report on the Federal Work Force for Fiscal Year (FY) 2009.  The full text of the report is available on the agency's web site at www.eeoc.gov.  The report assesses the state of equal employment opportunity throughout the federal work force – including trends in the composition of the workforce, and data concerning complaints of employment discrimination in the federal sector – and includes practical tips for agencies to improve their performance.
