Mountaire Farms, Inc., doing business as Mountaire Farms of North Carolina Corp., will pay $48,000 and furnish other relief to resolve a lawsuit for retaliation filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  Mountaire Farms is a Delaware-based agricultural food processing company that operates a poultry processing facility in Lumber Bridge, N.C.

Peters' Bakery, a family-owned business in East San Jose, violated federal law when the principal owner verbally abused an employee using ethnic and racial slurs, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  Additionally, the EEOC said Peters' Bakery retaliated against the employee by suing her in small claims court for defamation after she filed a discrimination charge with the EEOC.

Clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has agreed to pay $71,000 and to change its policies to settle two separate religious discrimination lawsuits on behalf of Muslim teens wearing hijabs (religious headscarves), the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today.  This settlement follows last week's ruling finding Abercrombie liable for religious discrimination in one case, and an April 2013 ruling dismissing its undue hardship claims in the other suit.
