EEOC Reaches Voluntary Settlement for Sexual Harassment with Koreatown Restaurant

Chilbo Myunok USA LLC, a Korea-based food company which owns a Los Angeles restaurant and a chain of fast-food stores in Korea, will pay $170,000 and furnish other relief to resolve sexual harassment complaints brought to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC's investigation had found that a class of waitresses was sexually harassed at the Chilbo Myunok restaurant in the Koreatown section of Los Angeles, and that four of them were forced to quit to escape the harassment.  The offending manager has since been fired.

Cinram Wireless Pays $40,000 to Settle EEOC Religious Discrimination and Retaliation Suit

A Fort Worth, Texas CD and DVD manufacturing company has agreed to settle a religious discrimination and retaliation lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that the company refused to accommodate an employee's Sabbath, which is from sundown Friday through sundown Saturday, and then fired her in retaliation for complaining about the failure to accommodate her religion as a member of Soldiers of the Cross of Christ Church.

The company that operates a Fairfield Inn & Suites hotel in Aiken, S.C., violated federal law by firing two employees, one as retaliation for complaining about discrimination and the other because it mistakenly believed she was doing so, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed yesterday.

John Wieland Homes Settles EEOC Race And Sex Discrimination Lawsuit

John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods, Inc., an Atlanta-based home builder, has agreed to pay $378,500 to six claimants and hire at least ten African-Americans and women into management positions over the next six years, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today. The agreement resolves a race and sex discrimination lawsuit filed by the EEOC in June 2009.

EEOC Sues FAPS, Inc. For Discriminatory Hiring Practices

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a workplace discrimination suit today against FAPS, Inc., an automotive port processor, charging that the company has engaged in an ongoing pattern or practice of race discrimination against African-Americans in recruitment and hiring. The suit also charges that FAPS has made improper pre-employment disability-related inquiries of applicants. Both these alleged practices violate federal law.

Two Sonic Franchises Sued By EEOC For Sexual Harassment To Pay $55,000

Two Sonic Drive-In franchises in the Kingwood-Humble area with common ownership and management will pay $55,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that S.D.I. of Kingwood, doing business as the Kingwood Sonic Drive-In, and S.D.I. of Lee Rd., doing business as the Lee Road Sonic Drive-In, violated federal law by routinely subjecting teenaged female employees to abuse by a manager and others, including threatening one young worker with a knife.

Affordable Care, Inc., a national denture provider, will pay $150,000 and furnish other relief to settle a sex and race discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The lawsuit, filed in March 2009 in federal court in Springfield, Mass., charged that Affordable Care violated federal law when its affiliated dentist, Nelson Wood, sexually and racially harassed two female employees.

Orkin Pest Control Sued By EEOC For Age And Religious Discrimination In Hiring And Advertising

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced that it has filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing pest control company Orkin of discriminatory hiring practices in denying jobs to older workers and favoring Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) (Mormon) applicants, particularly returned missionaries. The EEOC also charged that Orkin retaliated against an applicant who complained to the company's corporate headquarters about the alleged discrimination.

A Houston-area construction company will pay $122,500 and provide additional remedial relief to resolve a discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Pace Services, L.P. discriminated against Mohammad Kaleemuddin because he is of the Islamic faith and of East Indian descent, and against 13 other employees because they are black or Hispanic.

Monocle Restaurant Sued by EEOC  for National Origin and Religion Harassment

A Washington, DC-based steak and seafood restaurant violated federal law by subjecting two employees to a hostile work environment based on their religion and national origin, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  According to the EEOC's complaint, Faissal Chtaiti, who is Moroccan and Hilal Suboh, who is Palestinian, were subjected to harassment based on their religion and national origin by Deauville, Inc. d/b/a Monocle Restaurant ("Monocle Restaurant").  Both men are Muslim.

A Sonic Drive-In in Grapevine, Texas, has agreed to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), for $31,000, the agency announced today. The EEOC's suit charged that SDI of Grapevine [2240 Hall Johnson Road], A Texas Partnership, subjected 17-year-old carhop Erin Schwarzbach to a sexually hostile work environment created by the general manager of the restaurant.
