EEOC Sues DHL for Segregating Employees by Race

CHICAGO - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today filed a race discrimination lawsuit against DHL Express, Inc. on behalf of a class of African-American employees who were given different job assignments because of their race.  The EEOC received more than 20 charges of discrimination against DHL alleging that the shipping and delivery giant discriminated against black workers.

EEOC Sues Cost Cutters Hair Salon For Retaliation

Tomlin Hair Care, Inc., doing business as Cost Cutters Family Hair Care, unlawfully fired hair stylist Pam Hairston for complaining about an assistant manger's racist comments, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged in an employment discrimination lawsuit filed today. The company operates 14 hair salons in the southwest Virginia and Knoxville, Tenn., regions and employs approximately 90 employees. Hairston worked at the defendant's salon in Martinsville, Va.

EEOC Sues Marvin's Fresh Farmhouse, Inc. For Racial Harassment, Race Discrimination, And Retaliation

Marvin's Fresh Farmhouse, Inc., a family-owned restaurant located in Mt. Pleasant, N.C., violated federal law by subjecting Darick Alsbrooks, an African-American employee, to racial harassment and demoting him because of his race, and then discharging him for filing a charge of discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  The lawsuit also alleges that Marvin's Fresh discharged a white employee, Michelle Johnson, because of her association with Alsbrooks.  Finally, the EEOC claims that Marvin's Fresh violated federal law by failing to post or display information regarding federal anti-discrimination laws as required by Title VII.

$10 Million Consent Decree Ends Racial Harassment Case Against YRC/Roadway Express

Federal Magistrate Judge Susan E. Cox has granted preliminary approval to a $10 million, five-year consent decree which will end the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) race harassment and discrimination lawsuit against Roadway Express and YRC, Inc.  In addition to the multi-million-dollar monetary relief, the decree enjoins future discrimination at the facilities and requires the appointment of a monitor to oversee its implementation.

Delaware-based chicken processor Mountaire Farms, Inc. will pay $40,000 to settle a retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged in its lawsuit that Mountaire Farms violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it gave an employee a negative performance evaluation and then fired her in retaliation for her complaints about racial discrimination.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released its Annual Report on the Federal Work Force for Fiscal Year (FY) 2009.  The full text of the report is available on the agency's web site at www.eeoc.gov.  The report assesses the state of equal employment opportunity throughout the federal work force – including trends in the composition of the workforce, and data concerning complaints of employment discrimination in the federal sector – and includes practical tips for agencies to improve their performance.
