Wilmington Subway Operator to Pay $55,000 to Resolve Sexual Harassment Complaint

SKMATCH, Inc., the operator of a Subway restaurant in Wilmington, N.C., will pay $55,000 and furnish other relief to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that two female employees who were subjected to a sexually hostile work environment at one of SKMATCH's Subway restaurants in Wilmington.

Tony's Restaurant in Alton, Ill., will pay $75,000 and furnish other relief to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that the restaurant subjected a teenaged hostess and two young female cooks to sexual harassment.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit in federal district court against the owners/operators of several Chicago-area Papa T's restaurants and nightclubs.  The suit is filed on behalf of a class of women subjected to sexually derogatory comments and names, physical touching, and physical threats by the owner.  The suit also alleges that at least one of the women was terminated in retaliation for opposing and complaining about the sexually hostile work environment.

EEOC Sues Barnhouse Restaurant in Kewanee for Sexual Harassment and Retaliation

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a lawsuit on September 23 charging that Levidion, Inc., doing business as the Barnhouse Restaurant, violated federal law by sexually harassing female employees and retaliating against employees who complained about it.  The EEOC also asserted that the harassment was so intolerable that several women were forced to resign their jobs to avoid the harassment.  Barnhouse Restaurant is located in Kewanee, Ill., near the Quad Cities, which span the Mississippi River in northwestern Illinois and Iowa.

EEOC Sues Marvin's Fresh Farmhouse, Inc. For Racial Harassment, Race Discrimination, And Retaliation

Marvin's Fresh Farmhouse, Inc., a family-owned restaurant located in Mt. Pleasant, N.C., violated federal law by subjecting Darick Alsbrooks, an African-American employee, to racial harassment and demoting him because of his race, and then discharging him for filing a charge of discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  The lawsuit also alleges that Marvin's Fresh discharged a white employee, Michelle Johnson, because of her association with Alsbrooks.  Finally, the EEOC claims that Marvin's Fresh violated federal law by failing to post or display information regarding federal anti-discrimination laws as required by Title VII.

$10 Million Consent Decree Ends Racial Harassment Case Against YRC/Roadway Express

Federal Magistrate Judge Susan E. Cox has granted preliminary approval to a $10 million, five-year consent decree which will end the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) race harassment and discrimination lawsuit against Roadway Express and YRC, Inc.  In addition to the multi-million-dollar monetary relief, the decree enjoins future discrimination at the facilities and requires the appointment of a monitor to oversee its implementation.

Apple Gold, Inc., doing business as Applebee's, violated federal law by denying a promotion to a qualified female employee because of her sex, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  The EEOC charged that a Fayetteville, N.C., Applebee's discriminated against a server when the company failed to promote her to a bartending position because of her gender.

Kaze USA, Inc., doing business as Kaze Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar in Garner, N.C., discriminated against a Muslim employee by failing to accommodate her religious beliefs and firing her because of her religion, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. Kaze is a traditional Japanese-style teppanyaki steakhouse where food is prepared at the customer's table.
