EEOC TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON NOVEMBER 16

Commission to Address Operations in Wake of Hurricane Katrina, Revisions to EEO-1 Report

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern time), at agency headquarters, 1801 L Street, N.W. In accordance with the Sunshine Act, the meeting is open for public observation of the Commission’s deliberations. During the meeting, the following matters are scheduled for consideration:

  • Report on Agency Operations and Actions in the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Staff will present an update on the agency’s New Orleans District Office, which has jurisdiction for Louisiana. It is scheduled for reopening on December 1, 2005.
  • Revisions to the Employer Information Report (EEO-1). The EEO-1 report is a federal government form requiring certain employers to provide data on their employees by job category, race, gender, and ethnicity. The EEO-1 reports are submitted annually to the Joint Reporting Committee for the use of the EEOC and the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.

The EEOC enforces Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, which prohibits discrimination against individuals 40 years of age or older; sections of the Civil Rights Act of 1991; the Equal Pay Act; Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in the private sector and state and local governments; and the Rehabilitation Act’s prohibitions against disability discrimination in the federal government.
