EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION TO VOTE ON AUTHORIZATION OF FUNDS FOR PILOT NATIONAL CONTACT CENTER

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will vote this Friday, September 17, in a public meeting on the authorization of funds for a contract award that would establish a pilot National Contact Center to handle unsolicited calls for general information. The meeting will take place at EEOC Headquarters, 1801 L Street, NW, Washington, D.C., at 10:00 a.m. EEOC staff who have worked on the contact center proposal will be available to answer questions following the meeting.

The purpose of this meeting is to deliberate on the authorization of funds for the center, which was approved in concept by a unanimous vote of the Commission on November 6, 2003. The meeting will be open to public observation of the Commission's deliberations on the contact center, the authorization of funds and the Commission's vote. Discussion of vendors, proposals or a specific contract will not occur in open session.

The EEOC enforces Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, which prohibits discrimination against individuals 40 years of age or older; the Equal Pay Act; Title I of the ADA, which prohibits employment discrimination against people with disabilities in the private sector and state and local governments; the Rehabilitation Act's prohibitions against disability discrimination in the federal government; and sections of the Civil Rights Act of 1991.
