Amsted Rail's Hiring Practices Violate Disability Discrimination Law, EEOC Charges in Lawsuit

Amsted Industries, Inc. and Amsted Rail Co. Inc., a leader in the manufacture of steel castings for the rail industry, improperly used physical tests and applicants' health histories in the hiring process at their Granite City, Ill., facility, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it announced today.  The result of these practices, according to the agency, was to deny employment opportunities to a class of people who had a history of carpal tunnel syndrome or who Amsted believed might develop that condition.

ACM Services to Pay $415,000 to Settle EEOC Class Race, Gender Discrimination and Harassment Suit

ACM Services, Inc., a Rockville, Md.-based environmental remediation services contractor, will pay $415,000 and provide comprehensive equitable relief to resolve a class race, gender discrimination and harassment lawsuit, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today.  The EEOC had charged that ACM Services engaged in a pattern or practice of race and sex discrimination in hiring and also harassed two women based on sex, race and national origin and retaliated against them.

Vamco Sheet Metals to Pay $215,000 to Settle  EEOC Sex Discrimination Suit

Construction contractor Vamco Sheet Metals, Inc., will pay $215,000 as part of the settlement of a sex discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  Legal Momentum, a women's rights nonprofit organization (formerly NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund), joined the EEOC's suit on behalf of four discrimination victims.

Wells Fargo & Company has agreed to pay $295,000 to resolve a discrimination charge filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  A finding by the EEOC determined that Wells Fargo disciplined and terminated a Minneapolis Wells Fargo employee in retaliation for complaining of differential treatment based on her race and national origin in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Brookdale Senior Living Communities, Inc., a Delaware corporation based in Brentwood, Tenn., violated the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) in 2012 by failing to provide reasonable accommodations to Bernadine Adams, then the Health & Wellness Director of Brookdale's Heritage Club Mountain View facility in Denver, Colo., the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed September 24. The EEOC also alleged Brookdale further violated the ADA by retaliating against Adams by firing her for requesting a reasonable accommodation for her disability and for filing a charge of discrimination with the agency.
