EEOC Sues Newport News Industrial Corporation for Unlawful Retaliation

Newport News Industrial Corporation violated federal law by firing a female employee after she complained about being subjected to a hostile work environment because of her gender, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. Newport News Industrial Corporation is headquartered in Newport News, Va., and provides a wide range of services and products to the energy and petrochemical industries, as well as government entities, such as NASA, the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense.

EEOC Sues Midway Neurological & Rehabilitation Center for Pregnancy Discrimination and Retaliation

In a lawsuit filed today in federal court, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged that Midway Neurological & Rehabilitation Center LLC, based in Bridgeview, Ill., violated federal law by discriminating against a pregnant social worker, first by cutting her hours because of her pregnancy, and then by firing her in retaliation for her filing a charge with EEOC.

Construction Contractor Sued by EEOC for Sex Discrimination

Vamco Sheet Metals, Inc. violated federal law by serially firing female sheet metal workers working for the company on a state-funded construction project and otherwise treating them differently because of their sex, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  The Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.-based company fabricates and installs sheet metal on construction projects throughout the state.

Mountaire Farms, Inc., doing business as Mountaire Farms of North Carolina Corp., unlawfully fired an employee in retaliation for his complaining about national origin discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged in a lawsuit filed today.  Mountaire Farms is a Delaware-based agricultural food processing company that operates a poultry processing facility in Lumber Bridge, N.C.

$100,000 Consent Decree Ends Disabilities Act Lawsuit Against Giant Staffing Agency

Staffmark Investment LLC, one of the nation's largest commercial staffing companies, will pay $100,000 under a consent decree entered June 25, 2013 which ended a disability discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  The EEOC alleged that Staffmark violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when it terminated a woman with a prosthetic leg because of her disability.

U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois entered on July 10, 2013 a consent decree resolving a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Baker & Taylor, Inc., a leading distributor of print and digital content to libraries and retailers.  The decree resolves Case No. 1:13 cv 03729, which was assigned to U.S. District Judge John Nordberg.

Lilly Ledbetter to Headline EXCEL Training Event August 27-29 in Denver

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Equal Pay Act, Lilly Ledbetter, for whom the Lilly Ledbetter Act was named, will be the keynote speaker at the annual U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Examining Conflicts in Employment Laws (EXCEL) training conference, the EEOC Training Institute announced. For the first time, the conference, to be held in Denver on August 27-29, 2013, will feature separate sessions directed at private sector practitioners.

Jury Awards More Than $1.5 Million in EEOC Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Suit against New Breed Logistics

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A jury has rendered a verdict of more than $1.5 million in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit against New Breed Logistics, a North Carolina-based logistics services provider, the agency announced today.   The verdict followed a seven-day trial before U.S. District Court Judge S. Thomas Anderson on behalf of four claimants and included awards of $177,094 in back pay, $486,000 in compensatory damages and $850,000 in punitive damages for the discrimination victims.
