Office of the Chief Information Officer - Internship Program

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) strategically leverages technology and data to support its mission. It provides secure, efficient, and innovative IT and data services that enable digital transformation and strengthen cybersecurity. OCIO aligns technology investments with agency priorities while managing IT infrastructure, operations, and cloud services. The office leads the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve service delivery, streamline operations, and enhance decision-making. By ensuring ethical and legal compliance in AI use, OCIO positions the agency for future-ready innovation. Additionally, OCIO offers technical guidance and policy leadership to ensure interoperability, scalability, and compliance with federal regulations.

Overview

The internships provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable skills while supporting the work of the agency in eradicating employment discrimination and advancing equal employment opportunity. Interns will work closely with experienced staff (e.g., network engineers, data scientists) on a variety of mission-driven projects.

OCIO is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Qualifications (U.S. Citizenship Required): 

IT Interns

Current, full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students in cybersecurity, computer and information science, app development, cloud computing systems, information technology management, data science, or a related field at an accredited college or university. Applicants should have an understanding of network operations, cloud technology, artificial intelligence, and/or software lifecycle.

Data Interns

Current, full-time or part-time or graduate students in data science, statistics, or a related field at an accredited college or university. Applicants should have an understanding of data analytics and experience using quantitative or qualitative methods, moderate to extensive programming experience in programming languages (e.g., Python, R), and good written and oral communication skills. Applicants with extensive experience in data visualization and machine learning are preferred.

Internships are available during the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Typically, internships are part-time (at least 8 hours per week) for 10-14 weeks. Students may apply to receive course credits.

Application will be considered on a rolling basis, but the suggested closing dates for each semester are as follows:

  • Spring: Oct 18th
  • Summer: May 1st
  • Fall: July 31st
