EEOC Birmingham District Office Celebrates 50 Years of Civil Rights Work

Birmingham District Office Hosting Open House

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) invites the public to attend an open house on July 21 to celebrate the civil rights agency's 50th anniversary.

WHEN:    July 21, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

WHERE:     EEOC Birmingham District Office, Ridge Park Place, 1130 22 Street South,  Ste 2000, Birmingham, Ala. 35205

The public will be able to meet and speak with the staff and celebrate the agency's accomplishments.  District Director Delner Franklin-Thomas and the leadership team will speak about the ongoing work of EEOC and the challenges it faces in the 21st century.  The theme for the event is "EEOC at 50: Progress and Continuing Challenges in Eradicating Employment Discrimination."  Refreshments will be provided.  Parking is available in the area.

EEOC was created by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which was signed on July 2, 1964, and the agency began operation one year later, on July 2, 1965.
