Internship Opportunities at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer (OCHCO)

College/Graduate School: College Sophomores-Graduate Students.  Students with knowledge or interest in human resources, diversity, equal employment, statistics, website and database design & support, social science research and who are willing to learn how their skills may be relevant in advanced topics in federal anti-discrimination laws. 

Overview:  The internships are designed to give students at the secondary and post-secondary levels the opportunity to gain hands on experience in working on challenging projects principally involving issues linked to federal disability law, reasonable accommodation and diversity and inclusion.  Interns work closely with experienced attorneys and specialists on a variety of diverse projects. 

Interns may assist in creating maintaining diversity and inclusion pages for the National Diversity Council and supporting Sub-Councils around the country, updating standard operating procedures, research diversity best practices, providing assistance and support to Council members, scheduling and attending workgroup meetings, assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual reports, ongoing training efforts. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist with our mentoring and harassment prevention programs.

Interns may assist in preparing case files and maintaining databases on reasonable accommodation (RA) claims, creating and preparing other documents and records, aggregating information regarding employees and RA and Equal Opportunity related claims, providing content management to the OCHCO intranet presence, and preparation for events and conducting research on disability and diversity and inclusion practices. Interns also attend numerous training programs, including agency-wide and internal brown bag presentations. Some of this research may include statistical and economic based analyses so students with majors in these areas are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with advanced functions or Word and Excel are a plus. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend Commission Meetings, EEO Directors Meetings, and Developmental Brown Bag Sessions on Special Topics.
