An Evansville nursing home violated federal law when it acceded to its residents' preferences for non-black caregivers when making job assignments and subjected its black employees to racial harassment, the U.S. Equal Employment Oppor­tunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a suit filed today. The named defendants are the Village at Hamilton Pointe, LLC, dba Hamilton Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center; Hamilton Pointe Assisted Living Center; and The Cottages at Hamilton Pointe and its management company, Tender Loving Care Management, Inc., dba TLC Management.

Lewisville Medical Practice Sued by EEOC for Religious Discrimination and Retaliation

Shepherd Healthcare, a medical practice in Lewisville, Texas, violated federal law when it fired an employee because of her repeated requests to be excused from a daily morning Bible study, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. The EEOC also charged that the company unlawfully fired three other employees in retaliation for their opposition to the compulsory Bible study and other employer-imposed, religious-based observances or expectations.

IHOP Restaurants Sued by EEOC For Sexual Harassment

Two related International House of Pancakes (IHOP) franchises violated federal law when the male general manager and at least two cooks at the Glen Carbon, Ill., restaurant sexually harassed numerous female employees, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a discrimination lawsuit filed today in federal court. The EEOC's lawsuit also alleges that two of these female employees, including a 17-year-old high school student, were forced to resign due to the egregious sexual harassment. Additionally, the suit alleges that the male general manager at a related Alton, Illinois IHOP restaurant sexually harassed a male employee.

All Star Priority Staffing, LLC, a Phoenix staffing agency, violated federal law by forcing applicants seeking temporary employment to fill out an invasive medical questionnaire and answer medical questions before job offers, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed last week.  The federal agency also charged the company with denying job opportunities to applicants based on their answers.

City Sports, a chain of sports fashion stores with over 20 locations in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, violated federal civil rights laws by failing to hire and promote African-Americans and Hispanics into management positions in favor of hiring Koreans to fill management roles, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. City Sports also subjected three black salespeople to harassment because of their race, the EEOC charged.
