Platinum Production Testing Services, a Laredo company which provides oil/gas testing, measuring, surveying and analysis surveys, discriminated on the basis of pregnancy when it fired an employee after she requested leave for a pregnancy-related complication, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged in a lawsuit filed today.

EEOC Seeks Input on Strategic Enforcement Plan

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has released for public comment a draft of its Strategic Enforcement Plan (SEP).  Comments must be submitted by 5:00 pm ET on September 18, 2012 at strategic.plan@eeoc.gov or received by mail at Executive Officer, Office of the Executive Secretariat, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 131 M Street, NE, Washington, D.C. 20507.  The Commission plans to vote on the draft plan at the end of this fiscal year.

Vitol and Johnson Controls to Pay $62,500 to Settle EEOC Lawsuit for Retaliation

A Houston-based oil company and a Wisconsin-based energy and manufacturing company will pay $62,500 and furnish other relief to settle an employment discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that both Vitol, Inc. and Johnson Controls, Inc. were responsible for unlawfully firing an employee for filing a sex discrimination charge against Vitol.

EEOC Issues Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to Modify FOIA Regulations

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) which would modify certain aspects of the EEOC's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) regulations.  The NPRM was posted for public inspection today and will be published in the Federal Register on September 4, 2012.  Members of the public wishing to comment on the NPRM will have 60 days from the date of publication to do so.

Fry's Electronics Pays $2.3 Million to Settle EEOC Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Lawsuit

National retailer Fry's Electronics agreed to pay $2.3 million and to implement preventative measures to settle a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), according to a consent decree filed by the agency today. The EEOC had charged the company with harassing a young salesperson and firing a supervisor for standing up for her.
