Prestige Home Centers, Inc., an Ocala-based retailer of manufactured homes, will pay $79,000 and furnish other relief to settle a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Prestige, which operates 14 sales centers in north and central Florida, violated federal law when it subjected male employees to sexual harassment from a male supervisor, and then retaliated against one of them after he made complaints.

Lilly Ledbetter, the woman whose unequal wage lawsuit gave rise to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act—the first law signed by President Obama on January 29, 2009--will speak at a a free public workshop on the gender wage disparity on May 4, 2011.  The event is sponsored by the U. S. The United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)-Denver Office will host a community forum with a panel of experts for a serious discussion on how unfair pay impacts Colorado. The free event will take place on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn-Downtown Denver, 1400 Welton Street. The forum will run from 9:00 am – noon. 

Ganley Lincoln of Bedford, Inc., an auto dealership in Bedford, Ohio, will pay $300,000 to four African-Americans to settle a racial harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.

In its largest human trafficking case in agriculture to date, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced that it filed lawsuits in Hawaii and Washington against Global Horizons Inc., a Beverly Hills-based farm labor contractor, and eight farms.  The EEOC contends that Global Horizons engaged in a pattern or practice of national origin and race discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, when it trafficked over 200 Thai male victims to farms in Hawaii and Washington where they were subjected to severe abuse.  Hundreds of additional potential claimants and witnesses are expected, according to the EEOC.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed suit today against Signal International, LLC, charging that the Gulf of Mexico marine services company violated federal law by subjecting a class of approximately 500 Indian employees to human labor trafficking and a hostile work environment.

A labor broker in California, farms in Hawaii and Washington, and a marine services company in Mississippi and Texas subjected foreign workers to severe abuse and discrimination after they were trafficked into this country, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleged in three lawsuits filed today.  These lawsuits follow a Commission meeting, held Jan. 19, 2011, on the issue of human trafficking and forced labor.
