Indiana Health Care Service Sued by EEOC for Pregnancy Discrimination

An Indiana health care service corporation operating a dental clinic in South Bend violated federal law when it fired an employee because she was pregnant and about to go on maternity leave, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  According to the EEOC's suit (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission v. Indiana Health Centers, Inc., Civil Action No. 3:10-cv-412-PF), Indiana Health Centers, Inc. terminated a dental hygienist shortly after her supervisor learned she was pregnant.

Eastside Hampton Inn Franchise Sued by EEOC for Race Discrimination and Retaliation

A local hotel has denied employment to black housekeeping applicants,  offered lower pay and hours to black housekeeping staff, terminated black housekeeping staff who complained of the less favorable treatment, and destroyed employment records since at least September 2, 2008, according to a lawsuit filed on September 30, 2010 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Longs Drugs Sued by EEOC for Race and Gender Discrimination, Retaliation

Longs Drugs violated federal law by discriminating against an African-American female employee and firing her shortly after she reported the discrimination to human resources, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  The lawsuit also names CVS Caremark as a defendant because CVS bought Longs in August 2008 after the alleged discrimination occurred and is liable as Longs' successor.

EEOC Sues Tri-County Lexus For Religious Discrimination

Today the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a religious discrimination suit against Tri-County Lexus, a large dealership in Little Falls, N.J., alleging that the company violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by refusing to hire a Sikh man for a sales position solely because he refused to shave his beard, which is required by his faith.

Valero Refining – Texas L.P. Sued By EEOC For Disability Discrimination

The Houston District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today filed suit against Valero Refining -- Texas L. P. (Valero). The EEOC suit, (Civil Action No. 3:10-cv-00398 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas), alleges that Valero failed to accommodate Bobby Bass's disability for a safety test required to permit job assignment at its refinery, and discharged Mr. Bass because of his disability. The complaint alleges that Valero was a joint employer with Modern EPC, which hired Mr. Bass to work as a general foreman on a turnaround project at Valero's Texas City refinery. The complaint alleges that Valero removed and effectively discharged Mr. Bass from working at its refinery because he supposedly did not take the reading test.
