The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed suit late yesterday against YRC, Inc., alleging that it subjected black employees at its Chicago Ridge, Ill., facility to a racially hostile working environment. The suit also names Yellow Transportation, which operated the facility until its merger with Roadway Express, which resulted in the combination of the companies under the YRC, Inc. name in October 2008. YRC, Inc. is now the nation's largest less-than-truckload freight hauling company and is headquartered in Overland Park, Kan.

On Monday, June 10 at 1 p.m. (CST), Gilbert F. Casellas, Chairman of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), will hold a press conference in St. Louis to announce the details of a major settlement of an age, race, and disability discrimination lawsuit. The suit was filed against two Fortune 500 companies, one of which is headquartered in St. Louis, involving charges by 43 former employees that they were discriminatorily discharged.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) received recommendations yesterday from representatives of the AFL-CIO and AARP on how the agency can be more responsive to the needs of union members and older workers.
