EEOC OBTAINS $5.5 MILLION IN AN ADA CASE AGAINST COMPLETE AUTO TRANSIT

DETROIT -- A Detroit Federal Court Jury awarded an unprecedented $5.5 million in damages in an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) case brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)—the largest amount awarded to date in an ADA case. The lawsuit claimed that Complete Auto Transit discriminated against Thomas Lewis because of his disability (epilepsy).

STATEMENT BY EEOC CHAIRMAN GILBERT CASELLAS ON PROPOSED SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT WITH TEXACO

The proposed settlement agreement filed today by EEOC and Texaco, Inc. resolves the Commission's concerns that the public interest is fully addressed and that mechanisms are in place to ensure Texaco's future compliance with Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. We are pleased with Texaco's efforts in this regard and are hopeful that its agreement with private plaintiffs will soon be approved by the court.

EEOC AND MARTIN MARIETTA (LOCKHEED MARTIN) SETTLE MAJOR CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

DENVER -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Martin Marietta Corporation, now Lockheed Martin, have agreed to settle a lawsuit filed under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA).
