Ms. Ana Isabel Vallejo has been a Supervising Attorney for LUCHA: A Women's Legal Project at Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center in Miami, Florida since October 2004. From May, 2003 to October, prior to accepting her duties as a Supervising Attorney, Ms. Vallejo was a staff attorney for the Lucha Project. Her duties include representing low-income immigrant women and children victims of domestic violence, violent crimes and trafficking in persons before the various agencies in charge of implementing and enforcing the immigration laws of the United States. From June 1999 to April 2003, Ms. Vallejo was a staff attorney at St. Thomas University Human Rights Institute, her duties included representation of low income immigrants before the Department of Homeland Security's Bureaus of Citizenship and Immigration Services and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (formerly the Immigration and Naturalization Service), the Executive Office for Immigration Review and the Board of Immigration Appeals. In 1997 and 1998, Ms. Vallejo was a Franck C. Newman Intern and a volunteer at Rights International, The Center for Human Rights Law, Inc., in Miami, Florida, where she participated in the research and writing of three amicus curiae briefs -- two for the European Court of Human Rights and one for the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. She has researched and written in the area of Women's Human Rights specifically the issues of female genital mutilation and forced prostitution and trafficking of women for commercial sexual exploitation. She received a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in International Affairs from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a J.D. from St. Thomas University School of Law, Miami, Florida; and a LL.M. in Inter-Cultural Human Rights Law from St. Thomas University School of Law, Miami, Florida, where she graduated cum laude.
