Melinda C. Dugas Appointed as Regional Attorney for Charlotte District Office

WASHINGTON -- Melinda C. Dugas has been appointed Regional Attorney for the EEOC’s Charlotte District Office, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today.

Dugas brings with her nearly two decades of litigation and appellate experience, and has a comprehensive understanding of employment law, having represented employees and employers in discrimination matters, and having advised employers in the development of lawful workplace policies.

Prior to joining the EEOC, Dugas served for eight years as an assistant attorney general for the state of West Virginia where she advised and represented state leaders and the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

Prior to law school, she managed employees serving individuals with disabilities in Maryland, thus sparking her passion for advocating for the civil rights of those who cannot advocate for themselves.

Most recently, Dugas served as a board member of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals’ Court Improvement Program and as the chair for the state bar’s Legal Outreach Committee dedicated to providing access to justice for the most vulnerable populations.

“I am honored to accept this position and am looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to the EEOC’s efforts to prevent and remedy employment discrimination,” said Dugas.

General Counsel Sharon Fast Gustafson said, “Ms. Dugas is a litigator with substantial experience on both sides of employment discrimination. I am happy to welcome her as the EEOC’s newest regional attorney.”

The EEOC advances opportunity in the workplace by enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination. More information is available at www.eeoc.gov. Stay connected with the latest EEOC news by subscribing to our email updates.
