Performance Drilling to Pay $28,000 to Settle Race Discrimination Lawsuit with EEOC

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced today that it settled, for $28,000 and other relief, a race discrimination lawsuit against Performance Drilling Company LLC. Brandon, Miss.-based Performance Drilling provides land drilling services for natural gas and oil exploration and production companies in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida and East Texas. Prior to settlement, Performance Drilling filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Sandia Drilling Sued by EEOC for Race Harassment and Retaliation

Sandia Drilling Company, Ltd, L.L.P. and Sandia Drilling of Texas, L.L.C., Bossier City, La., oil drilling companies, violated federal anti-discrimination laws when their supervisors and other employees subjected two African-American and a Hispanic worker to a racially hostile work environment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  The companies also fired one discrimination victim in retaliation for complaining, the agency said.

Scully Distribution to Pay $630,000 to Settle EEOC Class Action Race Discrimination Suit

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced that SDS Fontana Holdings, Inc., which formerly did business as Scully Distribution Services, will pay $630,000 to settle an EEOC lawsuit which alleged widespread harassment and discrimination against a class of African-American, Latino and East Indian workers, mostly truck drivers, in Northern and Southern California.

EEOC Releases Tools to Educate Young Workers about Workplace Discrimination

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released a video and accompanying classroom guides to educate working-age students about sexual harassment and other forms of employment discrimination.  These tools were developed as part of EEOC's Youth@Work, an effort to educate America's youth about their employment rights and responsibilities and help employers create positive work experiences for young adults.  The tools are free to the public and will be posted online at www.youth.eeoc.gov under "free downloads." In addition, educators may request the video and classroom guides by e-mailing Youth.AtWork@eeoc.gov.

Delano Regional Medical Center to Pay Nearly $1 Million in EEOC National Origin Discrimination Suit

Delano Regional Medical Center (DRMC), an acute care hospital in California's San Joaquin Valley, will pay $975,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC) on behalf of a class of approximately 70 Filipino-American hospital workers.  The settlement, announced today, resolves the EEOC's and APALC's charges that the workers endured ongoing harassment and discrimination due to their national origin, stemming from the top levels of hospital management.

Bojangles' to Pay over $30,000 to Settle EEOC Sex Harassment and Retaliation Lawsuit

Charlotte-based Bojangles' Restaurants, Inc. has agreed to pay $33,426 and provide substantial additional relief to settle a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that an employee at a Greensboro Bojangles' was sexually harassed and then fired for complaining about it.

UPS Sued by EEOC for National Origin and Religious Harassment

Global shipping company UPS violated federal law when it allowed supervisors and coworkers to discriminate against and harass an employee for being Arab and Muslim, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  The suit also alleged UPS illegally retaliated against the worker after he reported the harassment to the company, his union and the EEOC.

Southwest Virginia Community Health System Sued for Sexual Harassment

Southwest Virginia Community Health System, Inc. violated federal law by subjecting a female employee to a sexually hostile work environment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.   Southwest Virginia Community Health System consists of a group of eight non-profit community healthcare centers throughout the Southwest Virginia region.  The EEOC said that the misconduct occurred at a healthcare facility in Troutdale, Va.

A Houston-based oil company and a Wisconsin-based energy and manufacturing company will pay $62,500 and furnish other relief to settle an employment discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that both Vitol, Inc. and Johnson Controls, Inc. were responsible for unlawfully firing an employee for filing a sex discrimination charge against Vitol.

Help at Home, Inc., a company that provides home health care to elderly and disabled individuals in their homes, violated federal law by allowing the company's regional director to sexually harass employees, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a discrimination lawsuit filed today.  The company also unlawfully fired the victims and their supervisor for complaining, the EEOC said.

EEOC Releases FY 2011 Federal Sector Report

Federal employees and applicants filed 16,974 complaints of employment discrimination in fiscal year 2011, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) "Annual Report on the Federal Work Force Part I:  EEO Complaints Processing for Fiscal Year 2011."  The report issued today assesses federal agencies' equal employment opportunity complaint processing program statistics.  The full text of the report is available on the EEOC's web site at: http://www.eeoc.gov/federal/reports/fsp2011/index.cfm.
