Social Media Comments Policy and Privacy Notice

Note: This comment policy applies to all official EEOC social media accounts, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and our YouTube channel.

About

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. It is also illegal to discriminate against a person because the person complained about discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination investigation or lawsuit. EEOC has 53 offices across the nation.

EEOC manages its LinkedIn, Instagram, FacebookX (formerly Twitter) and YouTube channel as portals for information from EEOC.  However, these social media accounts are not EEOC's official website. For information about EEOC, how to contact EEOC, or how to file a charge of discrimination with EEOC, please visit www.eeoc.gov.

Comment Policy

We encourage you to share your thoughts as they relate to the topic being discussed. The views expressed in comments reflect those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official views of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the federal government.

To maintain dignity and respect for the mission of EEOC, we ask that your messages and comments be respectful and considerate. We ask that you follow our posting guidelines set forth below. We will in our sole discretion delete in their entirety comments or posts that:

  • contain abusive, vulgar, offensive, threatening or harassing language, personal attacks of any kind, or offensive terms that target specific individuals or groups based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, ethnicity, age, religion, or disability;
  • are clearly off-topic, that promote services or products, or that promote or oppose any political party, person campaigning for elected office, or any ballot proposition;
  • are solicitations or advertisements, to include the promotion of or endorsement of any financial, commercial or non-governmental agency. Similarly, we do not allow attempts to defame or defraud any financial, commercial or non-governmental agency;
  • appear to contain copyrighted, trademarked, patented, or proprietary information;
  • suggest or encourage illegal activity;
  • are apparent spam (the author(s) may be blocked from the page without notice);
  • include certain personally identifiable information, such as social security numbers, addresses and telephone numbers;
  • appear to be attempts to file a charge of discrimination with the agency.

Take personal responsibility for your comments, your username and any information provided. Please remember that the content of all comments is immediately released into the public domain, so do not submit anything you do not wish to be broadcast to the general public.

The appearance or sharing of external links on any EEOC social media account does not constitute official endorsement on behalf of EEOC.

You may quote, republish or share any content on this page on your own blog, website or other communication/publication. If you do so, please indicate from which social media channel the information came and credit the author of the content.

We welcome your comments and questions at any time, but we will review and respond to them within 24 hours during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays, between 9am and 5pm EST). If you submit comments and/or questions after hours or during a weekend or holiday, we will endeavor to review them the next business day.

Members of the media are asked to pose questions to EEOC's Office of Communications at 202-921-3191 or newsroom@eeoc.gov. Reporters should refrain from submitting questions via social media as comments. Reporters seeking official Commission comment, documents, or information should continue to contact EEOC's Office of Communications and Legislative Affairs, and agency staff will respond promptly to those inquiries.  Media requests posted as comments will probably not receive an official response.

Privacy Notice

EEOC's official website is www.eeoc.gov.  EEOC uses third party sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to share some of the information from its official website in a different format that may be useful or interesting to users of this third party site.  EEOC cannot attest to the accuracy or security of information on this site, however, or any other linked site other than EEOC's official website.  Please be aware that the privacy protection provided on social media and third party sites that are not a part of the EEOC.gov domain may not be the same as the EEOC privacy policy. To protect your privacy and the privacy of others, we ask that you do not include personally identifiable information, such as name, Social Security number, addresses, phone numbers or email addresses in the body of your comment.  EEOC does not track or record information about individuals and their visits.
