EEOC Wins $365,000 Default Judgment Against Bliss Cabaret for Race Discrimination and Retaliation

A Clearwater, Fla., adult entertainment club and its parent company violated federal law by firing an African-American employee on the basis of race and later retaliating against a manager who objected to the racism by terminating him. The company must pay over $365,000 in total monetary relief according to the default judgment entered on August 11, 2015, by Hon. Virginia M. Hernandez Covington, U.S. District Judge.

Bedford Weaving Sued for Genetic Information and Disability Discrimination

Bedford Weaving, Inc., a broad loom fabric weaving manufacturer, violated federal law when it asked an applicant for genetic information and made illegal medical inquiries, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today. The suit also alleged Bedford Weaving failed to hire the applicant because she disclosed her disability on the application and that it failed to retain employment applications as required by federal law.

Injunction, Attorney Fees Ordered Against EmCare in EEOC Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Case

Upon consideration of a request by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, U.S. District Judge Jorge A. Solis has directed EmCare, a physician outsourcing group based in Dallas, to end practices of sex discrimination and retaliation and to report any employee claims of sexual harassment to the agency for the next two years. The judge's action follows a jury verdict in October 2014 awarding $499,000 to three former employees in a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit the civil rights enforcement agency brought against EmCare.
