COMMISSION TO CONSIDER STRATEGIES TUESDAY FOR COMBATING SYSTEMIC DISCRIMINATION

WASHINGTON – Moving to advance the fight against systemic discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will consider recommendations from a special task force at its next meeting, Tuesday, April 4, at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern Time), at agency headquarters, 1801 L Street, N.W. In accordance with the Sunshine Act, the following matters are scheduled for consideration during the open session of the meeting:

  • Announcement of Notation Votes
  • Systemic Task Force Report: Led by Commissioner Leslie E. Silverman, the internal Systemic Task Force was established in 2005 and charged by Commission Chair Cari M. Dominguez with examining the EEOC’s systemic program and recommending new strategies for combating systemic discrimination in the workplace. During the meeting, the Systemic Task Force will present its findings to the Commission, which is expected to consider implementation recommendations.

The task force has defined systemic cases as “pattern or practice, policy and/or class cases where the alleged discrimination has a broad impact on an industry, profession, company, or geographic location.” The full task force report will be available on the EEOC’s web site at www.eeoc.gov following the meeting.
