COMMISSION TO HEAR FROM AGENCY STAKEHOLDERS AT NEXT MEETING

WASHINGTON -- The next public meeting of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will be Tuesday, March 23, at 1:45 p.m. in the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Conference Room (9th Floor), 1801 L Street, N.W. The Commission Meeting will include a panel discussion with agency stakeholders representing older workers and union workers on issues affecting their constituencies.

The public is urged to attend the open session of the meeting at which the following business will be conducted:

  • Announcement of Notation Votes
  • Panel Discussion with Agency Stakeholders - Presenters scheduled to participate are:

    Michelle Pollak, Legislative Representative, AARP

Richard Womack, Director, Civil & Human Rights Department, AFL-CIO

At her confirmation hearing before the U.S. Congress last July, EEOC Chairwoman Ida L. Castro expressed her desire to build a more collaborative relationship and engage in an active dialogue with agency stakeholders. Tuesday's meeting marks another step in this ongoing effort.

"The Commission is committed to opening the lines of communication with civil rights groups, employee advocates, and the business and legal communities alike," said Chairwoman Castro. "By examining how we can best serve those who have a critical stake in our work, EEOC will be better equipped to enhance customer service and promote voluntary compliance with the EEO laws -- which will help to rid America's workplaces of discrimination."

NOTE TO MEDIA: Any matter not discussed or concluded may be carried over to a later meeting. The Commission agenda is subject to revision. You may call (202) 663-7100 (voice) or (202) 663-4075 (TTY) on March 23 to confirm the above schedule. Further information about EEOC is available on the agency's web site (www.eeoc.gov).
