EEOC Presents its Second Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Workshop Series

Federal Agency Offers New DE&I Workshop: ‘Unlocking Opportunities -- Employing Individuals With Convictions’

LOS ANGELES – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency responsible for enforcing laws against employment discrimination and harassment, continues its series of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) workshop series, “Employing Individuals with Convictions,” scheduled for Sept. 9.

This second workshop will focus on expanding DE&I by employing those with prior criminal convictions. The workshop will explore the EEOC's guidance on the use of arrest and conviction records in employment and host a lively panel discussion addressing myths and realities about employing people with prior criminal histories. This workshop is geared toward attorneys, mediators, human resource personnel, union officials and equal employment opportunity (EEO) professionals in the private and public sectors, along with other interested parties.

The EEOC’s Los Angeles District Office is pleased to co-sponsor this second DE&I workshop on employing individuals with convictions with the agency’s Dallas District Office and the Washington Field Office.

“The EEOC is pleased to continue the DE&I conversation with this timely and important workshop on unlocking opportunities by employing people with criminal histories,” said Katrina Grider, associate director of curriculum, education, and training for the EEOC. “Expanding the workforce to provide second-chance opportunities can have a positive impact not only on the workplace, but society as a whole.”

The EEOC Training Institute provides fee-based training and technical assistance to help employers understand, prevent, and correct discrimination in the workplace. The programs of the institute are made available under the EEOC Education, Technical Assistance and Training Revolving Fund Act of 1992, which was established by Congress to enable the EEOC to charge “reasonable fees” for specialized products and services developed and delivered as part of the Commission's training and technical assistance efforts.

Further details about the workshop, including the agenda, pricing information and online registration are available at http://bit.ly/EEOTraining2021. Registration information may also be obtained by contacting Outreach & Education Coordinator Monica Colunga at (202) 921-2803 / monica.colunga@eeoc.gov. The registration fee for the workshop is $115, with limited seating, and will take place virtually.
