EEOC Seeks Public Input on Proposed Enforcement Guidance on National Origin Discrimination

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it has voted to release for public input a proposed enforcement guidance addressing national origin discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  EEOC's enforcement guidance documents express official agency policy and explain how the laws and regulations apply to specific workplace situations.

(ASI), a Baltimore-based company that specializes in asbestos removal and demolition in the Washington, D.C. area, will pay $100,000 and furnish significant equitable relief to resolve a charge of national origin harassment filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and a Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) compliance evaluation, EEOC announced today.

Federal Judge Awards EEOC $7,658,500 in Case Against Farm Labor Contractor Global Horizons

A federal judge has ordered farm labor contractor Global Horizons, Inc. to pay $7,658,500 for a pattern or practice of subjecting Thai farmworkers in the state of Washington to a hostile work environment, harassment and discrimination in violation of federal anti-discrimination laws, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today. Senior U.S. District Court Judge Edward F. Shea found that Global's discriminatory practices were "reprehensible" and vindicated the Thai farmworkers who suffered from "fear, anxiety, anger, intimidation, humiliation, shame, and … an unrelenting sense of imprisonment."

Union and Apprentice Program To Pay $1,650,000 to Settle Part of EEOC Race Bias Lawsuit

Local 25 of the Sheet Metal Workers' International Association and its associated apprenticeship school will pay a combined $1.65 million and provide substantial remedial relief in partial settlement of race discrimination claims made against them by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today.

EEOC Hears Wide Range of Views at Public Hearing on Proposed Changes to EEO-1 Form

Today, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) convened a public hearing to obtain feedback from stakeholders on a proposal to revise the Employer Information Report (EEO-1) to include collecting pay data from private employers, including federal contractors, with 100 or more employees. This new data will assist the agency in identifying pay disparities that warrant further investigation and assist employers in promoting equal pay in their workplaces.

EEOC Releases Fiscal Year 2015 Enforcement and Litigation Data

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released detailed breakdowns of the 89,385 charges of workplace discrimination that the agency received in fiscal year 2015. Retaliation charges increased by nearly 5 percent and continue to be the leading concern raised by workers across the country.  Disability charges increased by 6 percent from last year and are the third largest category of charges filed.

EEOC Announces Proposed Addition of Pay Data to Annual EEO-1 Reports

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today made public a proposed revision to the Employer Information Report (EEO-1) to include collecting pay data from employers, including federal contractors, with  100 or more employees. This new data will assist the agency in identifying possible pay discrimination and assist employers in promoting equal pay in their workplaces. The revised EEO-1 will be announced today in conjunction with the White House commemoration of the seventh anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

Many Bases of Discrimination Can Lead to Harassment, Panel of Experts Tells EEOC Task Force

The bases of workplace harassment extend beyond sex and race to include age, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, and gender identity, a panel of experts told the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) Select Task Force on the Study of Harassment in the Workplace (STF) in a public meeting held yesterday. A second panel told the STF how the creative use of social media can spread an anti-harassment message, especially among millennials, or give a platform for workers to bring complaints to public attention.
