U.S. EEOC Hosts Three-Part Training Series for New Supervisors & Managers

Federal Agency Announces Registration Open for all Three Virtual Workshops

LOS ANGELES – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency tasked with enforcing laws against employment discrimination and harassment, announced it is hosting a three-part virtual training series designed specifically for new supervisors and managers.

The first training session will be held July 11, which will highlight “What You Should Know as First-Time Supervisors and Managers: Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Basics – From Theory to Application.” This training will introduce new supervisors and managers to the world of EEO, explaining the law and reviewing real-life scenarios and best practices.

On August 15, the EEOC will host their second training in this series, “What You Should Know as First-Time Supervisors and Managers: EEO Accommodations” focuses on disability, religious, and pregnancy accommodations. Experts from the Los Angeles District Office will go into detail on the requirements for supervisors and managers to provide accommodations and understand their responsibilities under the law.

The final training in this series will be August 22, “What You Should Know as First-Time Supervisors and Managers: Managing People Through Conflict.” This session focuses on mediation and coaching skills to address EEO related matters in the workplace. Early intervention can address many issues in the workplace and this training will provide several skills for first-time supervisors and managers they can take into their workplaces.

Speakers for this series include Los Angeles District Director Christine Park-Gonzalez, Deputy Director Patricia Kane, Supervisory Administrative Judge Diane Arkow Gross, Lead Systemic Investigator Rogelio Colón, and Lead Outreach & Education Coordinator Nicole St. Germain.

The workshops are geared toward new supervisors and managers, attorneys, mediators, human resource personnel, union officials and EEO professionals in the private and public sectors, along with other interested parties.

“The EEOC understands the training needs of new supervisors and managers and has created this workshop series to address some of the ongoing issues that arise in workplace discrimination cases,” said Christine Park-Gonzalez, district director for the EEOC’s Los Angeles District office. “This series will provide the necessary EEO information, real-world examples, and best practices that can be implemented by new supervisors and managers in the workplace.”

Further details about the workshop, including the agenda, pricing information and online registration are available at https://bit.ly/2023EEOWorkshops. Registration information may also be obtained by contacting Lead Outreach & Education Coordinator Nicole St. Germain at (213) 785-3045 / nicole.stgermain@eeoc.gov.   The registration fee for each workshop is $175, and it will take place virtually.
