EEOC Meeting Highlights Challenges to Title VII National Origin Enforcement

The diversity, size and cultural individuality of different ethnic and immigrant groups present challenges to compliance with and enforcement of the nation's anti-discrimination in employment laws, a panel of experts told members of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) at a public meeting held today.  The panelists represented diverse stakeholders, including EEOC employees, representatives of major ethnic advocacy groups and management-side attorneys.

Next EEOC Commission Meeting To Be Held November 13

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will hold a meeting on Wed., Nov. 13, at 9:30 a.m. (Eastern Time), at agency headquarters, 131 M Street, N.E., Washington D.C. 20507.  In accordance with the Sunshine Act, the open session of the meeting will be open to public observation of the Commission's deliberations.

EEOC Sues Taboo 2 Bar & Bistro for Sexual Harassment

A popular Atlanta-area restaurant/nightclub violated federal law by subjecting female servers to a pattern of sexual harassment by a manager, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed recently against Sirdah Enterprises, Inc., which owns and operates Taboo 2 Bar and Bistro in Roswell, Ga. The agency also alleged that the working conditions were so intolerable that five of the women were forced to resign when they could no longer tolerate the abuse.

Baird Tree to Settle EEOC National Origin  Wage Discrimination Lawsuit

Baird Tree Company, Inc., a tree-trimming service company based in Jacksboro, Tenn., and operating in eastern and middle Tennessee, has agreed to settle a national origin discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on behalf of 19 Hispanic former employees, the agency announced today.

EEOC Sues Saint Joseph's Hospital for  Disability Discrimination

Saint Joseph's Hospital, part of the BayCare Health System, the second-largest private employer in the Tampa Bay area, violated federal anti-discrimination law when it refused to accommodate a nurse's request for a reasonable accommodation based on a disability, refused to reassign her to a vacant position for which she was qualified and then fired her, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed October 23, 2013.

Mesa Systems to Pay $450,000 to Settle EEOC National Origin Discrimination Lawsuit

Grand Junction, Colo.-based Mesa Systems, Inc., a moving and storage company, has agreed to pay $450,000 and furnish other relief required by a court-ordered consent decree to settle a national origin discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today.  This is the largest national origin employment discrimination settlement ever achieved by the EEOC in Utah.
